Include your browser version, Pebbleback version (shown in the side panel), and what you expected to happen. If it helps, attach an exported JSON backup rather than describing it, but remove anything sensitive first, since a backup file can contain tab titles, URLs, and notes.
What to include in a report
- Your browser (Chrome or Edge) and its version.
- The Pebbleback version, visible in the side panel.
- The steps you took and what you expected versus what happened.
- Whether the issue affects Finder, Trails, checkpoints, Context Packs, Park and resume, or backups.
- A screenshot if the problem is visual. Do not include page content, passwords, or credentials in a screenshot.
Where is my data?
Pebbleback stores everything locally in your browser. Trail history and checkpoints live in local IndexedDB; recovery data, preferences, and status values live in local browser extension storage. There is no Pebbleback account and no Pebbleback server, so nothing is stored anywhere except your own device.
Export and import
- Open the Pebbleback side panel.
- Go to the workspace or Library data controls.
- Choose Export to download a local JSON backup of your projects, Trails, checkpoints, and notes.
- Choose Import and select a previously exported JSON file to restore it.
Backups are local and manual only. Pebbleback does not upload a backup anywhere on your behalf.
Restoring after a browser restart
After a restart, open the Pebbleback side panel and use the existing whole-checkpoint restore to resume a Parked Trail. If Chrome's "Enhanced browser recovery" permission has been granted, Pebbleback can also check Chrome's own recently closed sessions to restore a missing window more faithfully; this is optional and only used when you ask for it.
Uninstalling Pebbleback
- Export a backup first if you want to keep your Trails, checkpoints, and notes.
- Remove the extension from your browser's extension manager (chrome://extensions or edge://extensions).
- Uninstalling deletes Pebbleback's local storage and IndexedDB data for the extension. There is no server-side copy to separately delete, because Pebbleback does not send this data anywhere.
A checkpoint or Trail looks wrong
- Open the Trail Timeline and confirm which window or project the checkpoint belongs to.
- Use Compare between two checkpoints to see the evidence for what changed: opened, absent, moved, pinned, or observed-navigation.
- If a checkpoint still looks wrong, export a backup and email support with the details above.
Permissions
Pebbleback requests tabs, storage, and sidePanel to find and focus tabs, save your workspace locally, and show its panel. The optional sessions permission is only requested if you explicitly choose "Allow enhanced recovery" to help restore a window after a restart; Pebbleback works fully without it. There are no required or optional host permissions.
